LocalVote Gets Support from Wild Gift to Help Increase Participation In Local Government
KETCHUM, ID – (December 26, 2014) Newly founded LocalVote is getting local support to help develop a mobile polling application to better connect city governments with their constituents, stakeholders and communities. Founder and CEO Jon Duval was selected as one of four Fellows in 2015 for Wild Gift, a Hailey-based non-profit organization that helps fund, support and mentor social entrepreneurs.
After years of working as both a local news reporter and non-profit executive director in the Sun Valley area, Duval has seen firsthand the need for an improved method of providing information on important municipal issues and, in turn, receiving feedback about how the community would like them to move forward. While attendance at city council meetings continues to drop, most cities have yet to embrace new technology to find a better solution to a widespread problem.
“Thanks to Wild Gift, I’ll be able to develop this app and bring it to market with a great team of mentors to make sure I’m on the right track every step of the way,” Duval said. “Without their support, this challenging process would have taken much longer and had much less of a chance for success.”
In addition to traditional business support, Wild Gift also provides its entrepreneurs with a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, bringing the four fellows into the wilderness surrounding Sun Valley for three weeks. This outdoor experience allows these company founders to unplug from the daily routine and focus on not only their own projects, but also look for ways to help one another. In addition, it puts the entrepreneurs in situations with new and diverse challenges that they have to work through.
“I’m really looking forward to getting up into the mountains, especially camping in the Sawtooths, with the other 2015 Fellows,” Duval said. “They are all incredibly impressive and inspirational and I think there’s a lot I will be able to learn from them in how to start building a successful venture.”
LocalVote is still in the early development stage and should enter its test phase with municipalities within the Wood River Valley during 2015. For more information about LocalVote, please contact Jon Duval at [email protected] or 208-721-0808.
